Patient Comments: Chiggers - Effective Treatments

Question:What treatment was most effective for the chiggers?

Comment from: Red Smith, 75 or over Female Published: August 06

I had a half dozen chiggers very recently; I was more quickly relieved/they seemed to clear up in less than a week. I applied Benadryl cream because it was handy, and I have tried other methods over the years, and this was easy. The first time I experienced chiggers was at before age 10, and I've had them occasionally over 70 years.

Fingernail polish directly on the bite, when it first appears, stops the itching within 2 minutes. It may take 2-3 applications of polish depending on how vigorously you bathe. The bite disappears in a couple of days.

I have found Absorbine JR. to help with the itching of chigger bites, it seems to shorten the length of time that itching is present also. Careful where you apply it of course as it dose burn some. The sponge applicator is handy too.
