USES: This medication is a cephalosporin antibiotic used to treat a wide variety of bacterial infections.
HOW TO USE: This medication is taken by mouth. To prevent stomach upset, it may be taken with food or milk. The liquid form of this medication should shaken well before pouring each dose. Antibiotics work best when the amount of medicine in your body is kept at a constant level. Do this by taking the medication at evenly spaced intervals throughout the day and night. Continue to take this medication until the full prescribed amount is finished even if symptoms disappear after a few days. Stopping the medication too early may allow bacteria to continue to grow resulting in a relapse of the infection.
SIDE EFFECTS: This medication may cause stomach upset, diarrhea, loss of appetite, nausea or vomiting. Take with food or milk to minimize these effects. If these effects continue or become severe, inform your doctor promptly. If any of the following effects occur, notify your doctor: headache, dizziness, fatigue, muscle aches, strange taste in the mouth. Unlikely to occur but report promptly: fever, easy bleeding or bruising, change in the amount of urine, seizures. An allergic reaction to this drug is unlikely, but seek immediate medical attention if it occurs. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include: difficulty breathing, skin rash, hives, itching. If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.
PRECAUTIONS: Tell your doctor your medical history, especially of: kidney problems, colitis or other stomach problems, allergies (especially to penicillins or cephalosporin antibiotics, other antibiotics, tartrazine, or any other medication). The liquid form of this medicine may contain aspartame. If you have phenylketonuria (PKU) or any other condition where you must restrict your intake of aspartame (or phenylalanine), consult your doctor or pharmacist regarding the safe use of the liquid form of this drug. Use of this medication for prolonged or repeated periods may result in a secondary infection (e.g., oral, bladder or vaginal yeast infection). Tell your doctor if you are pregnant before using this drug. This drug is excreted into breast-milk. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.
