Patient Comments: Bursitis - Treatments

How did you treat the bursitis?

Comment from: JB, 45-54 Female (Patient) Published: March 21

I have been suffering from bursitis for 6-7 months and have, today, had an ultra-scan and steroid injection in both hips. I know it is a little early to say but hips are feeling quite good tonight - bedtime will tell (always the worse). Prior to these injections my doctor has given me course of Naproxen 250 mg (2 tablets a day) and they also seemed to have helped. Like many others, I was referred to Physio therapy to begin with, but unfortunately it only seems to make things worse! I am hoping that the steroid injection works and I can resume some of the activities I loved only last year.

I am 52 I have bursitis in both my hips and at night I feel like dying it's so bad why with all technology and medical knowledge can we get rid of this awful condition. I have been diagnosed with flu and confined to bed for this week well the night times are unbearable and chronic pain can actually drive one mad! I'm going to start on alternative cures now and from all accounts none of them work. It makes sense to get these bursas out of the body surely or does the pain then transfer itself onto somewhere else. Please God something will happen.

I had bursitis in my shoulder about 2 years ago. I thought it was tennis elbow until I went to the physical therapist who diagnosed it as bursitis and sent me to a sport medicine physiotherapist, who gave me heaps of exercises. I couldn't lift anything heavy with my left arm. The physio put me on anti-inflammatory tablets to ease the pain.

I have bursitis on both my hips, but the right hip is hurting really bad right now. I think both bursas are involved. I got out of the car this morning and my leg nearly gave way under me. I'm used to being fairly active, and I hate this. It hurts so much! I got steroid shots last week and there wasn't much relief.

I have had bursitis for more than years now. At first, I had the occasional pain in my upper arm. I went to see a chiropractor who did acupuncture, but he was more interested in giving me chiropractic treatment than the acupuncture. There was not much relief from him, so now I am visiting a physio and having massages, physio and acupuncture, which I find is helping so much more, I still get the ache but less intense, and the movement of my arm/shoulder has improved greatly.

Bursitis in shoulder: Had sharp pain on two different arm movements. Had ultra sound and cortisone injection (first ever) which changed the pain (not sharp but much longer and awful) but still have the problem!

I have the same bursitis and burning pain on the outside of my thigh. I have been diagnosed with Meralgia Paresthetica at Cleveland Clinic. I have had it for ten years and am seeing a pain specialist who is going to sedate me and inject me to calm the nerve that is causing the pain, the lateral femoral cutaneous nerve.
