Patient Comments: Bacterial Vaginosis - Symptoms

What were your symptoms of bacterial vaginosis?

My second pregnancy four years ago changed my body more than my first. I had yeast infections and I think I may also have had bacterial vaginosis. I was treated for a yeast infection. Now, after using an IUD for a few years, I am having issues with odor and discharge. This may be made worse by my leaky bladder. I have already been treated once with antibiotics for vaginosis, along with a fungicide for yeast. My OB/GYN told me that some of her patients douche with vinegar solutions after sex to prevent vaginosis. Obviously, I can't do that every time. But I will give it a try next time.

I am a 41 year old woman and have no experience in the past with any of this. I have been with the same man for 13.5 years and had never had a problem. Now I develop BV! I am reading some of the information and the only thing jumps off the page at me is the "new partner!" Well, I know that I am 100% faithful and we have never had this problem before! I did have a hysterectomy last year and I am wondering whether the estrogen pills that I have to take contributed to this or If my husband is having relations with someone other than me!

I am a 54 year old who recently was treated with Bacterial Vaginosis and now, 3 months later, it appears I have it again. I experience itching in the clitoral area and an unpleasant odor. Also a feeling of being unclean. I am thinking that it may be caused by a sensitivity to my husband's semen, as we often use a condom to slow things down but did not this week. Another possibility is that I am sensitive to condom lubricant as it is difficult to find non-lubricated brands now. My doctor prescribed antibiotics last time which cleared things up quickly, but it is frustrating to find and I have it again!

This is the first time I have had bacterial vaginosis. Towards the end of my period I started smelling a terrible fishy smell that was extremely embarrassing. The last 13 days or so have been very stressful for me with constant, smelly vaginal discharge until I just found a tampon stuck inside of me. (I was inserting a tea tree oil suppository when I felt something there.) I am writing this to encourage others who have BV to PLEASE check and make sure you don't have a tampon stuck. I have a feeling it may be the cause of many cases of BV.

My symptoms started a few months after I had the implanon inserted. I wouldn't get my period every month it was more like every three months so a few day's after it would end ii would have intercourse with my partner of four years n would notice an embarrassing odor which I thought was due to my menstrual cycle. So I had it removed and noticed the smell hadn't gone away. I could smell it most after sex. So I did some research myself n figured it was BV.

I'm 25 and have been diagnosed with BV since the age of 18. I have been prescribed lots of different medication by my doctors and nothing seems to stop it from reoccurring. I have also abstained from sex and resorted to unprotected sex since I was also told that condoms can trigger the infection and still nothing works. The odor that I'm faced with starts off with a fishy scent and then by day 2 evolves into a rotting odor.

I have had BV for at least 5 years. The most annoying symptoms are the smell and the bleeding. I literally have to where a pad because of the discharge and the light pink blood. It appears that BV shows up right before my cycle each month. It has also surfaced when I have a new sex partner as well. I just really wish it would go away. There has to be some way of getting rid of this forever. Cleocin suppositories work best for me, but some doctors have prescribed Metronidyzole both vaginally and oral and that's a drag! It helps to know I'm not alone though!
