Apnea is most often seen in infants who weigh less than 5 lbs (2kg). Apnea usually appears during the first hour that the drug is being given. Therefore, infants should be closely monitored in an appropriate setting during treatment with this drug. USES: This medication is used for temporary treatment of patent ductus arteriosus, a heart defect in infants, until surgery can be done. HOW TO USE: This medication is infused into a vein using a special pump. The patient will be monitored closely by trained health care professionals while receiving this medication. Therapy will be evaluated continuously and the risks and benefits considered. Discuss them with the doctor.
